William "Bill" S. Manning, 77, entered into rest on Tuesday, June 14, 2011. Mr. Manning was the Director, Plans and Programs (XPX), Headquarters Air Force Reserve, Robins Air Force Base, Georgia.
Mr. Manning was born December 25, 1933, in San Francisco, California. He was raised in the San Francisco Bay area until moving to Seattle, Washington, in 1949. He graduated from Queen Anne High School, Seattle, in 1951. He attended Orange Coast College, University of California, Berkley, and Troy State University. Among numerous Air Force and government schools attended are Air Command and Staff College at Maxwell Air Force Base, Industrial College of the Armed Forces by correspondence, Base Commander's Management Course at Maxwell Air Force Base, the initial class of the Contingency Wartime Planners Course at Maxwell Air Force Base, and Logistic Plans Officer course at Lowery Air Force Base.
Mr. Manning was awarded the following medals; Meritorious Service, Combat Readiness, Good Conduct, National Defense Service, Armed Forces Expeditionary, Vietnam Service, Humanitarian Service, Armed Force Reserve, Small Arms Expert Marksmanship Ribbon, Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross and Republic of Vietnam Campaign.
A member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, he enjoyed golf, tennis and snow skiing. His parents, Patrick S. Manning and Rosalie Brady Manning; and step-mother, Mary Manning, preceded him in death. His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, J. Maria Manning, Warner Robins; daughter, Lisa Harris, Warner Robins; siblings, Patricia L. Pennock (Richard C.), Grass Valley, California, and Michael J. Manning (Ina Dalsemer), Los Angeles, California; niece, Lynn M. Springer (David); great-nephew, Ryan Springer; great-niece, Alyson, Carpinteria, California.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2011 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests donations be made to Pine Pointe Hospice, 6261 Peake Road, Macon GA 31210, or to the Alzheimer's' Association, 277 M.L.K. Jr., Blvd., Suite 201, Macon GA 31201.
