CPO John Golden Whiting Sr., US Navy (Ret.), 83, died Monday, August 25, 2003. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday, August 27 at 10:30 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Interment with full military honors will follow in Andersonville National Cemetery. Visitation will be Tuesday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the OAC Senior Center, 155 Maple ST, Warner Robins, GA 31093.
Born in Buford, GA, CPO Whiting was a 28-year veteran of the United States Navy. He retired in 1969 as a Chief Petty Officer. He also served two years at the U.S. Embassy in Cape Town, South Africa. He attended First Baptist Church of Centerville and was very active with the OAC Senior Center of Warner Robins. CPO Whiting was preceded in death by his wife, Floramann K. Whiting, and parents, Alfred Cleveland and Myrtice Whiting.
Survivors include his son, John Whiting, Jr., and daughter-in-law, Jessie Whiting, Conyers, GA; brother, Walter Whiting, Warner Robins; granddaughter, Kate Whiting, Auburn, AL; grandson, Charlie Whiting, Conyers, GA; niece, Susan Whiting Davidson, Greensboro; and nephew, Michael Peavy, Tennessee.
