A true American patriot, CWO-4 Martin Van Buren Habecker, Jr., USAF (Ret.), 91 passed away on Sunday, March 27, 2022.
The third oldest of 13 children, Mr. Habecker was the son of Martin Van Buren Habecker, Sr. and Bertha Mary Mase Habecker. He was born in Lebanon, Pennsylvania, on November 10, 1930. Mr. Habecker traveled the world while proudly serving his country in the United States Air Force as a Masters Weapons Controller for 23 years. After the military, he spent four years in Saudi Arabia working for Lockheed Martin, as well as working other various jobs.
Mr. Habecker had a passion for traveling and was able to see most of the world. He also enjoyed playing games, especially poker and golf. A fan of opera and country music, Mr. Habecker loved listening to Gene Autry sing. He also enjoyed watching Wagon Train and Gunsmoke. Most of all, Mr. Habecker loved his family dearly. He was a quiet and intelligent man and his words of wisdom and life experiences will be forever cherished.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Habecker was preceded in death by his daughter, Susan Marie Kren, four brothers and three sisters.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 71 years, Alice Elenor Marquis Habecker of Warner Robins; children, Deborah Grierson, Martin Van Buren Habecker III (Lucena), Michael J. Habecker (Christina), all of Georgia; son-in-law, John Kren of Texas; eight grandchildren, seventeen great-grandchildren, and 14 great-great grandchildren; and five sisters.
A memorial gathering will be Friday, April 8, 2022, from 9:30 a.m. until 10:30 a.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A graveside memorial service will immediately follow at 12:00 p.m. in Andersonville National Cemetery where Mr. Habecker will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of CWO-4 Martin Van Buren Habecker, Jr., USAF (Ret.) to the Leukemia Research Foundation, 191 Waukegan Road, Ste. 105, Winnetka, IL 60093.
