Dale Shepherd, Sr., 69, passed away on September 23, 2024, at his home in Bonaire, Georgia.
Son of the deceased Inez Marie Stover Shepherd and Van Buren Shepherd, he was born on May 31,1955, in Kanawha, West Virginia. He graduated from Ravenswood High School, West Virginia in 1973. Dale entered the United States Air Forces in 1974, he was Veteran of the Vietnam War and proudly served in Desert Storm. He was stationed in Korea, Germany, Florida, and Georgia working as an Air Transportation Craftsman. Retiring with an Honorable Discharge at Robins Air Force Base in 1994 after serving 20 years. After retirement, he settled in Houston County Georgia. He continued to work for various companies including Blue Bird, United States Postal Service, and Bass Pro Shop. He permanently retired in 2021.
He was preceded in death by his mother, dad, Ex-Wife and Mother of his son, Elizabeth Shepherd, and his best friend “Charlie”. He is survived by his son, Dale Shepherd, Jr., and his grandson, Aiden Shepherd; his sisters Marcia Conley and Karen Shepherd both from Ravenswood, West Virginia; and niece, Kristen Bacon (Dan) of Virginia Beach.
Dale was a deeply beloved father, PaPa, uncle, brother, and friend. His passing was sudden and unexpected but quick, just like he always hoped it would be.
While I lost my most beloved dad, Aiden his first and only grandchild lost his “Papa”, many have lost a friend and loved one in him.
He has been a rock to Aiden, to many others, and me. A master at sarcastic humor and witty timing to others, and even a glorious pain in the neck. No matter what happened between you in your lives, once you were marked as important to him, he'd be by your side if you needed him. There was so much more to him than just dad, though to me that was his greatest roll - he was also a “PaPa”, friend, brother, hunter man, fisherman, and a man of the great outdoors. Dale was an avid outdoorsman, particularly hunting, fishing, and boating. After the birth of Aiden, his grandson, he loved and embraced the role of being a grandfather, sharing every weekend with his grandson.
The Funeral and Memorial service will be announced at a later date. The memorial will be at Andersonville National Cemetery Honoring Dale’s Military service.
In lieu of Flowers, donations may be paid to “Dale Shepherd Memorial Fund” at McCullough Funeral Home, 417 S. Houston Lake Road Warner Robins, GA 31088.
