Darryol Solomon, 74, entered into rest on Sunday, January 27, 2025.

Darryol Solomon, a beloved husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle, and friend, was born on February 3, 1950, in Fort Valley, Georgia, to the late Aaron Solomon and Bertha Mae Jefferson Solomon. He grew up on Solomon Quarters, a place rich in family roots and cherished memories.

Darryol met the love of his life, Eula, in eleventh grade. He escorted her to his prom, and married her seven years later, building a beautiful family over almost 52 years. To this union, were born Marquis and Felicia.

Darryol graduated from Crawford County Training School (CCTS) in 1968, marking the beginning of a fulfilling and hardworking life. His professional journey started at Gordon Foods in Atlanta, where he worked briefly before joining Blue Bird Body Company for ten years. He later found his true calling as an aircraft sheet metal mechanic at Robins Air Force Base, where he dedicated 30 years of exceptional service before retiring in 2011. During his tenure at Robins, Darryol traveled extensively, working on aircraft at U.S. bases all over the world, including locations in Asia, Europe, and North America.

In retirement, Darryol embraced his favorite role yet: full-time “Papa.” He poured his heart into his grandchildren, spending hours playing football, basketball, and spades; sharing laughter; and talking about sports. His family was his pride and joy, and his devotion. You couldn't tell him Felicia wasn’t the most beautiful girl in the world, that Marquis wasn’t the smartest and smoothest thing walking, and that his wife wasn’t the prettiest and sharpest woman in every room.

Darryol’s love for people made him a consummate socialite; he never met a stranger, was always the life of the party, and brought the party wherever he went. Whether dancing the night away with his wife—who was his perfect partner in swing dancing—or cracking jokes with his signature humor, Darryol's zest for life was contagious.

A devout Christian, Darryol held a lifetime membership at Ross Chapel Community Church in Fort Valley, an associate membership at Springhill Community Church of the Living God in Byron, and a watchcare membership at Beulahland Bible Church of Middle Georgia. His faith was unwavering, and he was always ready to serve, whether as an usher or by volunteering wherever help was needed. He also found immense joy in attending church concerts, letting the music fill his soul. In his leisure time, Darryol enjoyed life’s simple pleasures. Whether spending time with friends, savoring his favorite BBQ (a passion he took seriously), or cheering on his favorite teams—the Georgia Bulldogs, Atlanta Falcons, and Atlanta Braves—he knew how to make the most of every moment. And no matter how busy he was, he always found time to enjoy his favorite daytime dramas, The Young and the Restless and The Bold and the Beautiful.

He was a devoted brother, nephew, and cousin, always standing for family. He was everyone’s favorite uncle, building personal and lasting relationships with his many nieces and nephews, including the grands. His in laws will tell you he was more than that; he was a brother. He loved them and he looked out for them, however they needed. He was a devoted friend. Those who knew him, know he would do what he could for you, and he always met you with a smile.

Darryol was a man who loved deeply, laughed often, and lived fully. His legacy of love, faith, and joy will continue to shine brightly in the hearts of all who knew him.

His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Eula Mae Hampton Solomon; children, Marquis E. Solomon, Felicia Solomon Tharpe (Richard), and his niece, Jontue C. Hampton, who was like a daughter; and grandchildren, Nicholas M. Solomon and Kaison E. Solomon. He also leaves his aunt Betty Benjamin and siblings, Harold Solomon (Jessie), Johnny B. Solomon, Emma Foster (Jerome), Cleveland Solomon (Arthea), Aaron Solomon Jr., Horace Solomon (Patricia), and Rodney Solomon (Stephanie) and cousin, Albert Weaver, who was like a brother. He also leaves devoted friends Sanders Little, Willie Respress, John Dallas Hill, and Daniel Dixon, along with a host of nieces, nephews. cousins, his many other loving family members and friends.

Visitation will be Friday, January 31, 2025, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday, February 1, 2025, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. A repast will be held immediately following the service at The Farmhouse at McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Darryol will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
