David Edward Bowers, 76, entered into rest on February 4, 2011.
Mr. Bowers was born on March 15, 1934 in Athens, Alabama, and attended school in Americus and Plains, Georgia. With great pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Air Force, and later worked in civil service, retiring from Robins Air Force Base. A member of the Jeffersonville Masonic Lodge #133, he also served as Chief Aid of Al Sihah Shrine Temple in 1996 and as Potentate of Al Shah Temple in 2001. He was past president of the Cabiri and past member of the Houston County Shrine Club. His church home was Central Baptist Church. His parents, Edward Rowe and Evelyn Wright Bowers; and sisters, Dorothy Bowers Parker and Francis Bowers Joiner, preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of forty-three years, Catherine Smith Bowers; daughter, Debbie Davis; sons, Edward Rowe Bowers, Gregory Goolsby, Timothy Goolsby, Michael Goolsby and David Jordan; sisters, Edith Parker Holt and Shirley Bowers Smith, Americus; grandchildren, Kaycee and Clayton Goolsby, both of Fort Valley, Callie, Drew and Hayden Goolsby, all of Atlanta; one great-granddaughter, Bella; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Monday, February 7, 2011 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, February 8, 2011 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home, Reverend Sydney Odom officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery. Memorial donations may be made to Central Baptist Church, 1120 Lake Joy Road, Warner Robins GA 31088, Heart of Georgia Inpatient Hospice, 1120 Morningside Drive, Perry GA 31069, or Al Sihah Shrine Transportation Fund, 222 Mecca Drive, Macon GA 31206.
