David Wright Smisson, 68, of Bonaire, Georgia, died March 18, 2021, at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, Georgia, following a brief illness.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, March 22, in Fort Valley, Georgia, for immediate family only.
Mr. Smisson was born November 15, 1952, in El Paso, Texas, to Francis Wright and Louise Scarborough Smisson. His childhood was spent growing up at various Air Force bases across the US, as well as a 4-year stint in Weisbaden, Germany.
He graduated from Warner Robins High School in 1974 and subsequently enlisted in the US Air Force. Following two years of service, he returned to Warner Robins where he worked for Goodwill Industries as a Team Manager for contract work at Robins Air Force Base for 30 years.
David was kind and big hearted, as well as loyal and loving. He was a creative individual who enjoyed making things with his hands and was a talented sketch artist. He had a great interest in nature and history and derived pleasure from riding his Harley-Davidson motorcycle. He will be greatly missed by his family.
David is survived by his parents, Wright and Louise Smisson of Bonaire, GA; sisters, Lissa Worthey (Mark) of Thomasville, GA, and Emily Mercier (Mark) of Kathleen, GA; sister-in-law, Susan Toney Smisson of Lookout Mountain, GA; nieces and nephews, Matthew Smisson (Bethany) of Lookout Mountain, TN, Kate Worthey (Dave Lurie) of Brooklyn, NY, Hope Smisson Woodruff (Zach) of Chattanooga, TN, Emily Claire Worthey Adcock (Jake) of Canton, GA, Hampton Worthey of Atlanta, GA, and Tucker Mercier of Kathleen, GA, as well as 3 great nephews and 1 great niece. He was preceded in death by his much-loved brother, Joseph Drake Smisson and his beloved nephew, Forrester Wright Mercier.
The family would like to thank the doctors and staff at Fairview Park Hospital in Dublin, Georgia, for their excellent medical attention as well as their loving care and concern for David and his family.
