Major Don Wiegard, USAF (Ret.), 61, died Tuesday, April 2 at Houston County Medical Center. Services will be held at 2:00pm on Saturday, April 6 in the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Visitation will be Friday from 7:00 until 9:00pm at McCullough Funeral Home.
Maj. Wiegard was born in Tacoma, WA. Retired from the U.S. Air Force, he also flew commercially with Southern Air Transport. He was a graduate of the University of Puget Sound in Tacoma, Washington, and a distinguished graduate of the USAF ROTC. Maj. Wiegard was a decorated Vietnam veteran, having received many awards, among which were the Distinguished Flying Cross with three devices, Airman’s Medal, Air Medal with two silver and three bronze devices, Distinguished-Presidential Unit Citation, and the Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross with device. He was preceded in death by his father, Ralph Wiegard.
Survivors include his wife of 35 years, Sue Sentell Wiegard; mother, Margaret Marek Wiegard, Tacoma, WA; daughters, Kelly Sue Wiegard and Kimberly Wiegard, both of Atlanta; and brother, Charles Wiegard, Tacoma, WA.
McCullough Funeral Home has charge of arrangements.
