Donald Daye, 77, went to be his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, at home, and surrounded by his loving family, on Wednesday, December 17, 2008.
Mr. Daye was born on May 1, 1931, in Chicago, Illinois. With pride and honor he served his country in the U.S. Air Force, and worked thirty-five years in civil service as a Lead Computer Programmer at Robins Air Force Base.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church since 1955 where he served as an ordained deacon, was the longest standing choir member and faithfully attended Pete Joyner's Sunday School Class. Additionally, he served on the finance committee, was a longtime secretary for the fifth and sixth grade Sunday School Classes, oversaw the serving of the Lord's Supper for many years, and played on the church softball team. An avid orchid grower, he was treasurer of the Middle Georgia Orchid Society. He was an accomplished award winning bowler, loved fishing with his son, spending time with his family and playing with his grandchildren. His brother, Emmett Daye, and parents, Estill and Edith Morris Daye, preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of fifty-three and one-half years, Gloria Locke Daye; son, Daryl Carson Daye (Tracie), Perry; daughter Diana Cheryl Young (David), Charlotte, North Carolina; sister, Virginia Elia (Thomas), Chicago, Illinois; and grandchildren, Maria Carrasco, Devin Carson Daye, and Steven, Rebecca, Danielle, Delaney and Dalton Young.
Visitation will be Friday, December 19, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, December 20, 2008, at Central Baptist Church, Dr. Owen Bozeman and Reverend Sydney Odom officiating. Interment will follow in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
