Donald Lee Cottrell left the toe-tapping country life for his Heavenly home on December 29, 2020. He was 81 years old.
A lover of country and bluegrass music, Donald was a regular at the Powersville Opry in Byron which he called, “The Sing.” He was passionate about hunting, fishing, and tending to his garden. Because of his talent in gardening, he was featured in a newspaper article for growing a 45-lb. watermelon one year. Before her passing in March of this year, Donald loved caring for his wife, Sue, to whom he was married for 52 years. In addition to his wife, Donald was preceded in death by his parents, Robert and Anna Mae Cottrell; two brothers: Russell and Richard; and daughter, Brenda Smith.
Survivors include his son, James and daughter-in-law Angela Blackwell; daughter, Susan Green; granddaughter, Lauren Moran; great-grandchildren, Rorie and Gemma; sister, Delores Burgmeyer of Bowling Green, MO; and brothers, Glen, John, and Nathan Cottrell.
Visitation with Donald’s family will be Monday, January 4, 2021 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The funeral service celebrating his life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, January 5, 2021, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Reverend Jeff Cleghorn officiating. Following the service, Donald will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
