Doris Virginia Crow Gilliland

April 17, 1934 — February 5, 2025

Warner RObins

Doris Virginia Crow Gilliland, 90, peacefully entered into heaven’s gates on the morning of Wednesday, February 5, 2025. Born and raised in Chesnee, South Carolina, she was the daughter of the late Forest Herbert and Alma Louie Dobbins Crow. Doris graduated from Chesnee High School in 1952 and married the love of her life, Fred, two years later.

Doris embraced the role of a dedicated homemaker, caring for her husband, daughter, granddaughter, and even great-grandchildren with love and selflessness. She was a skilled seamstress, an excellent cook, and a nurturing caregiver who was always there for those in need. Doris’s thoughtful care extended to laying out Fred’s clothes, packing his lunches, and having dinner ready every night. A faithful tither, she had a remarkable ability to stretch a dollar. She always made sure that her family’s needs were met and gave to dozens of charitable causes over the years.

An avid lover of game shows, Hallmark movies, flowers, and cheering on the Northside High School Eagles and the Atlanta Braves, Doris’s joy for life was contagious. But above all, her faith was the cornerstone of her life. She was a devoted Christian who spent her days studying her Bible and praying fervently for those in need. Doris’s example of faith and discipleship deeply influenced her family, especially her grandchildren, who were blessed to witness her unwavering love for God in every action.

Doris moved to Warner Robins in 1966, where she became a member of Trinity United Methodist Church. She later joined Northview United Methodist Church where she spent many years and most recently became member of First United Methodist Church, she served faithfully in various capacities.

Her memory will forever be cherished by all who knew her, especially her family, who will never be the same without her. Doris was a true Southern Christian matriarch, shaping her family with grace, love, faith, and food.

In addition to her parents, Doris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Fred Leo Gilliland; infant baby boy Gilliland; son-in-law, Michael Wayne Dillard; brothers, F.H. Crow (Jenny), Edward Crow (Janette), and James Crow; sisters, Flora Hall (Junior) and Elizabeth Crow; and sister-in-law, Barbara Crowe.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her daughter, Cindy Dillard of Warner Robins; granddaughter, Nikki Lytle (Brandon); great-grandchildren, Tyler (Heather) and Cole Toraya, and Ivy and Lily Lytle; brother, Johnny Crow; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends such as the Brantleys’ and several others.
