Doris ''Dodie'' Irene O'Conner Cooper

January 24, 1935 — June 2, 2003

Doris Irene O’Connor Cooper died June 2, 2003, after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Doris was born January 24, 1935, to Agnes (Erickson) and Arthur O’Connor in Sturgis, South Dakota. She graduated from Sturgis High School. In 1958 after having attended Black Hills State College, she began a 29-year career in Civil Service with the latest assignment being Directorate of Plans and Programs at Kelly Air Force Base, TX.

On July 8, 1966, she married Dink David Cooper at Ellsworth Air Force Base Chapel in Rapid City, South Dakota. During his Air Force Career they enjoyed assignments to Utah, Mississippi, Italy, Germany, and Texas. In 1999, they moved to Bonaire, GA, and became members of Unity Baptist Church, where she was active with the hospitality and personnel committees. In addition, she was known for her loving gifts of hand-crocheted baby blankets.

Doris is survived by her husband; a daughter, Patricia McKissic, and her husband, Robb, of Limerick, PA; their children, Megan, Kendra, and Lauren; her son, David Cooper, his wife, Debra, and their children, Jon and Taylor, of San Antonio, TX; David’s daughter, Talia Morgan; her brother, Arthur (Bucky) O’Connor, and his wife, Patricia, of Rapid City, SD; sister-in-law, Fern O’Connor; and several nieces and nephews.

She is preceded in death by her parents; three brothers, Dean, Wayne, and Bill; and one sister, Jean Haire. She will be greatly missed by her family and many friends who enjoyed her sense of humor, organization, and caring ways.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 5 at 11:00 a.m. at Unity Baptist Church in Bonaire, GA, with interment following in Andersonville National Cemetery. Visitation will be Wednesday from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Unity Baptist Church Kitchen Fund, 479 Hwy 96, Bonaire, GA 31005.
