Dorothy Jean Bracewell Smith, 87, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 19th, 2021. She was a loving mother, sister, grandmother, great-grandmother and wife to two husbands, both of whom predeceased her. Her parents were Olivia and Roy Bracewell Sr. of Dublin, GA.
After high school and business college, Dorothy began working in Personnel at Robins Air Force Base. There, she met and married Donald N. Vincent "Vince" of Woonsocket, RI and had her daughter, Vicki Lynn, in 1955. The family was stationed in Bitburg, Germany and then in Birmingham, AL when Vince was transferred there while in the U.S. Air Force. They returned to Warner Robins in 1968 and Dorothy resumed her career in Personnel at the Robins Air Force Base where she later retired as a GS-12.
After 28 years of marriage, Vince passed away and Dorothy found love again. She married Royce R. Smith of Slocomb, AL in 1989. He had served in the U.S. Navy in WWII and had retired from working as a civil servant at Robins Air Force Base. Her family at that time expanded to include a loving stepson, Royce "Ed" Smith, daughter-in-law, Catherine "Cathy," grandchildren, Shauna and Marka, and eventually, great-grandchildren, Jena Grace, Finlee Kate and Fisher. Dorothy has a granddaughter, Tess, born in 1994, by her daughter Vicki.
After retiring, Dorothy had wonderful adventures with Royce, her best friend, Betty Jo Doherty, cousins, Ann and Gwen, and other friends, visiting many places in the world. She said the day in Ephesus, Turkey was the hottest day she ever experienced! She made many trips to California to visit her daughter, Vicki, son-in-law, Raj, and granddaughter, Tess. Royce passed away in 2007 and Dorothy found a passion for Bridge and was also in a bowling league. Her Bridge partner and great friend was Jean Marriott.
Dorothy is survived by her daughter, Vicki Vincent Chabra, son-in-law, Raj and granddaughter, Tess Jeanette Chabra; her sister-in-law, Aline Delannoy and family; her brother, Fred Bracewell; sister-in-law, Shirley Bracewell and family; her brother, Roy Bracewell Jr. (predeceased), and his family; as well as her extended family with Royce, mentioned earlier. In addition to many other cousins, she is survived by her beloved friends, Phyllis McLendon, Martha Jones, Millard Simmons, Florene Howard, Mildred, and others. Special mentions to her cousin, Bunny Smith of Dublin, and family friends, Janice Whitcomb, Rick Doherty, Maynell Smith, and all their families.
Dorothy was a member of the First United Methodist Church of Warner Robins. She was dearly loved and her memory and legacy will live on.
She will be laid to rest with a graveside service in Magnolia Park Cemetery in Warner Robins on Monday, March 22, 2021, at 2:00 p.m.
