Dorothy Arlene Groat Zeuner, known to many as Arlene, passed away on January 2, 2025, at the age of 88. She was born on March 2, 1936, in Philadelphia, PA, and spent her life embodying love, kindness, and service to others.
A lifelong nurse, Arlene devoted her career to caring for others in the Macon and Warner Robins areas, as well as in Florida and New Jersey. She approached her work with the same compassionate spirit that defined her life. She also remained deeply committed to her faith and church, where she was an active member, serving on the Social Ministry Board. In this role, she regularly visited homebound members and nursing home patients, offering not only physical care but also spiritual comfort.
Arlene was a devoted wife to her beloved husband Bill, a cherished mother, and a proud Me-Mom to her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Family meant everything to her, and she loved nothing more than spending time with her loved ones, especially her grandkids and great-grandkids. She cherished those moments, making memories that will live on in the hearts of all who knew her.
Her love extended beyond her family to her furry companions. Arlene had a special place in her heart for cats and dogs, especially her white cats Snowy I and II, who brought joy and comfort to her life.
Arlene's talents were many, and she took great joy in sharing them with friends and family. Whether through crafting, cross-stitch, knitting, or sewing, she found joy in creating beautiful things for others. Her home was always open, and her heart even more so. She was quick to offer a home-cooked meal or a ride to an appointment, always ready to serve those in need. Arlene and Bill even welcomed the homeless into their home on several occasions, showing the selflessness and generosity that defined her life.
Arlene lived her Christian faith each and every day, always putting others before herself. She was a shining example of selfless love, devotion, and kindness, and her impact on the lives of others will never be forgotten. Arlene’s heart was big, and she leaves behind a legacy of love, faith, and service to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Arlene was preceded in death by her parents, Raymond and Dorothy Mower Groat and son, Steven Zeuner.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her loving husband, Bill; children, Mark Zeuner (Melissa), Donna Zeuner-Burkhardt (Frank); grandchildren, William “Ted” Zeuner, III (Lacie), Karl Burkhardt (Jennifer), and Jennifer Burkhardt (Carlos Ponce); and great-grandchildren, William “Liam” Zeuner, IV, Luna Zeuner, Austin Burkhardt, and Ada Burkhardt.
Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 7, 2025, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church with a funeral service immediately following. Afterward, Arlene will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
