Durwyn Elzie Mason

August 6, 1967 — September 6, 2021

Durwyn Elzie Mason, 54, passed away on Monday, September 6, 2021, unexpectedly at his residence.

A Middle Georgia native, Mr. Mason was the son of Ann Mason and the late James S. Mason. He was born on August 6, 1967. As a young boy, Mr. Mason played the piano and sang at church. He participated in school plays and was often chosen from the audience to be in shows at Disney World. Mr. Mason attended Northside High School and went on to serve in the United States Navy. Of the Christian faith, Mr. Mason was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Centerville.

In his spare time, Mr. Mason followed politics and enjoyed a good debate. He was also a weather enthusiast who will be remembered as friendly and outgoing. Additionally, he played electronic games and adored his pets.

In addition to his father, Mr. Mason was preceded in death by his maternal grandparents, Elzie and Evelyn Bassett; and paternal grandparents, W.W. and Eliza Mason.

Mr. Mason is survived by his mother, Ann Mason; siblings and their families, Vanessa Mason Turner (Brock) and their son, Ross Turner; Lenora Mason Spensley (Randy) and their children, Amy Luna (Johnny), Joel Gregory (Sarah), Kristy Chaltry (Stephan), James Spensley; and Megan Wilson (David); as well as 12 great nieces and nephews; and a host of many other beloved family members and friends.

Visitation will be Thursday, September 9, 2021, from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church in Centerville. A funeral service will immediately follow at 11:00 a.m. Afterward, Mr. Mason will be laid to rest in Centerville Cemetery.
