Dustin Lee Heitschmidt, 34, passed away on October 14, 2004. Services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, October 18, 2004 at Hunter Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama with interment following in Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home Cemetery, Pelham, Alabama. Visitation will be held at the church before the service from 12 noon – 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Children’s Trust Fund, 560 River Oaks Drive, Cropwell, AL 35054.
Born in Mississippi at Columbus Air Force Base, Mr. Heitschmidt was a loving husband and father. He was an avid outdoorsman and loved spending time mountain biking, camping, backpacking and hiking. After graduating in Vernon, Texas in 1988, he earned his bachelor’s degree from Texas A & M University in 1993 and went on to earn his master’s degree from Samford University in 2003. Formerly a Line Clearing Specialist with Alabama Power Company in Birmingham, Alabama, Mr. Heitschmidt was working as a Forestry Services Specialist with Georgia Power Company. He was a former member of Hunter Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Alabama where he served as a children’s Sunday School teacher and Royal Ambassadors Leader. He was a member of Central Baptist Church and the Young Parents Sunday School Class.
Survivors include his wife of six years, Wendy Hurd Heitschmidt; son, Riley Harold Heitschmidt; and daughter, Reagan Margaret Heitschmidt, Warner Robins; parents, Rod and Sue Heitschmidt, Miles City, Montana; brother, Jason Heitschmidt (Traci), Flower Mound, Texas; grandmother, Mrs. Harold Heitschmidt, Watertown, South Dakota; father-in-law and mother-in-law, Al and Belinda Hurd, Pell City, Alabama.
