Eddie F. Matthews, 78, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, September 13, 2011.
Mr. Matthews was born on July 13, 1933 in Belleville, Alabama. Eddie was a graduate of Warner Robins High School and earned his Associate's degree in business at Middle Georgia College. He was a faithful member of Christ United Methodist Church and the Truthseekers Sunday School Class. With pride and honor he served in the United States Air Force during the Korean conflict. Eddie was the Owner and Operator of Handyman True Value Hardware in Warner Robins for forty years. After retirement, he spent many years as a Starter/Ranger at Houston Lake Country Club. Eddie was a member of the Dixie Seniors Golf Association, past President of the Georgia/Florida Hardware Association, a Charter Member of the Warner Robins Civitan Club, and a member of the Exchange Club of Perry. His family called him "Fred Friendly" because he always had a smile and greeting whether he knew you or not. He was a loving and devoted husband, dad, granpa and great granpa. His family was his greatest joy in life. His sons, Randall J. Matthews and Michael A. Matthews, and his parents, Corrie F. Matthews and Mattie Lou Gaston Matthews, all preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his beloved wife of fifty-five years, Natalie Watson Matthews, daughter and son-in-law, Lori and Chris Chaloult; grandchildren, Christi and Jason Matthews, Jessie, Sarah and Ben Chaloult; great grandson, Chance Matthews; all of Warner Robins; sisters, Carolyn Hindman, Pace, Florida; Rita Eades, Florence, Alabama; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Thursday evening, September 15, from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, September 16, 2011 in Christ United Methodist Church with interment following in Magnolia Park Cemetery. The Reverend Richard Soper and Reverend Dr. Buddy Cooper will officiate. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations to Christ United Methodist Church, 511 Russell Parkway, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088; or Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088. The family would like to express their gratitude to the loving caregivers at Heart of Georgia Hospice for their love and care provided to Mr. Matthews and the entire family.
