Edith Jackson

November 29, 1923 — February 6, 2004

Warner Robins – Edith W. Jackson, 80, passed away on Friday, February 6, 2004 at Houston Medical Center in Warner Robins, Georgia, USA. Graveside funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 12, at Parkway Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 2:00 to 4:00, Wednesday, at McCullough Funeral Home.

Edith was born in St Helens England 29 November 1923. Her parents Norah and James worked hard to bring up a family of 6 children of whom, Edith was the second eldest. On leaving school at 14 years of age she went to work locally in a glass factory.

It was during the Second World War that she met Andy her husband to be, while he was serving at a nearby American airbase. After the war was over Andy was posted back to America and Edith followed by sea on the Queen Mary or Queen Elizabeth.

Andy was still in the military and they travelled together to several other countries before finally returning to America. They lived in Montgomery, Alabama; Frost Proof, Florida and Edith finally settled in Warner Robins, Georgia. When Andy passed away she returned to England, but could not settle here and returned home to America.

She was loved by her family some of whom have fond memories of visits to her Florida home where Andy and Edith shared a simple but happy life together.

Edith was a caring person and was very good to her mother when young. She was a lively outgoing person in her younger days although in later years due to ill health, this probably was not as evident.

Her family in England are grateful for all the kindness shown to Edith and would welcome this opportunity to thank all the people in America who in any way looked after or befriended Edith: including doctors, nursing staff, priests, nuns and care workers.

We will be celebrating Edith’s life at the same time in England, as you hold the service in Warner Robins, with all her family and friends that she left behind over 50 years ago . The service will be held in the Catholic church that she was christened in as a young baby were her brother Frank and sisters Irene and Mary and all their families will be thanking God for the life of their much loved sister Edith.

Survivors include her siblings, Mary Pilling, Irene Wayne, Jimmy Woodyer, Frank Woodyer, and Tony Woodyer of England.
