Edna L. Smith, 93, formerly of Findlay, Ohio, died Wednesday, March 24, 2021 at Arbor Manor in Perry, Georgia.
She was born in North Baltimore, Ohio, to Charles and Emma Jane Brumbaugh Benedict on July 25, 1927. At eight years old, Edna was diagnosed with a brain tumor and spent several months at Ohio State University Children's Hospital under the care of Dr. Harry Lefever who performed an emergency brain surgery. She married Royal E. Smith on August 10, 1945 in Angola, Indiana. Edna was employed by RCA in Findlay, Ohio, for 30 years. As a faithful attender of the Upper Room Church of God for more than 30 years, she kept the food pantry supplied with items for the less fortunate.
Edna was a loving mother to Kaye (Ernest) Weaver, of Fort Wayne, Indiana; Joyce (Buddy) Robinson, of Palmetto, FL; Mark (Claudia) Smith, of Findlay; and Nathan (Mary) Smith, of Warner Robins, GA. Also surviving are her grandchildren, Adam (Helen) Weaver of Lenox, IL; Rachael Smith of Macon, GA; and Rebecca (Remington) Bennett of Griffin, GA; and great grandchildren Benjamin, Caleb and Dorothy Weaver. Also surviving is her sister, Shirley Heilman of North Baltimore and brother, John (Joan) Benedict of Findlay. She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and siblings Bill Benedict, Jane Hinton, Mabel Wittier, Mary Lloyd and Maxine Shaffer.
A private, family-only graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 1, 2021 at Knollcrest Cemetery in Arcadia, Ohio. Officiant will be Rev. Nathan Smith.
