Edward “Stephen” Mitchell, Iv

December 13, 1984 — December 29, 2021

Our precious Stephen was gathered into the arms of Jesus on Wednesday morning, December 29, 2021. He was 37 years old.

The son of Jane Shackelford Mitchell and the late Edward S. Mitchell, III, Stephen was born on December 13, 1984, at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois. Growing up, he had formed a very special bond with his daddy and missed him every day after his father’s passing. A social butterfly, Stephen looked forward to riding the bus to and from school and took delight in spending time in class with his other classmates and peers. Stephen especially loved church and would often participate in the praise and worship services. One of Stephen’s many endearing qualities was singing, and he could sing in perfect pitch. He always tried to do his best in remembering the lyrics to every song, even if he only heard them once. His favorite songs were, “This is the day the Lord has made” or as he sang it, “Dis is de day de Lo have made” and “Wheels on the bus.” Stephen’s favorite hymn was “Victory in Jesus,” and he sang it with gusto! He also loved riding horses, or as he lovingly referred to them as “hoses” with his friend, Jeff. He could be content at home playing with his toys, especially his balloon bouquets, but would rather have been in the vehicle, even if it was just to go for a ride. Camping was another one of Stephen's favorite activities, especially when taking his family’s “mowerhome” out to enjoy the serene sounds of nature.

In addition to his father, Edward S. Mitchell, III; Stephen was reunited with his paternal grandparents, Edward S. Mitchell, Jr. and Mary S. Mitchell; and maternal grandparents, William Shackelford and Wanda L. Shackelford, in Heaven.
His memory will forever be treasured by his mother, Jane S. Mitchell of Warner Robins; sister, Stephanie C. Bonnell (Ryan) of Pinehurst, Georgia; as well as longtime caregiver and family friend, Erma Jean Harvey and her family.
