Elbert L. Mcclung

October 8, 1922 — February 5, 2007

Colonel Elbert L. (Mac) McClung, 84, passed away on Monday, February 5, 2007 at Serenity Gate Hospice.

Colonel McClung was a native of Elkton, Kentucky, born October 8, 1922, to the late Elbert E. McClung and Margaret Haynes McClung.

He joined the Army Air Force in June 1942, and completed a combat tour with the 461st Bomber Group in 1945, flying as a bombardier/navigator on a B-24 which was stationed in Italy during their missions. After the war, he attended the University of Kentucky for his undergraduate degree and the then the University of Louisville Law School where he received his Doctorate of Law degree in 1951. He joined the Kentucky National Guard, which he had helped form, and was called to active duty during the Korean conflict where his duty took him to Japan. After completing his service in Japan, he returned to civilian life in Louisville. In 1957, he was recalled to active duty in the Air Force and served in Greenland, Taiwan and Vietnam. While in Taiwan, he proudly received the Chinese Honor Award by Chiang Kai-Shek for his work in Taiwan. His last five years of active service were served as the Staff Judge Advocate of Headquarters air Force Reserve. Colonel McClung retired from the Air Force in 1975.

He was a member of Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as an elder. He was also active in a number of civic organizations; Warner Robins Lion’s Club, Elks Club, 32 degree Mason, Shriner’s, and Retired Officers Association. He held many officer positions in these clubs. He was a charter member of two Lion’s Clubs where he served as President and was honored with the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award for his untiring work for the Lion’s Clubs.

Survivors include his loving wife of fifty six years, Dorothy (Dottie) Tupman McClung, Warner Robins; daughters, Ami McClung Horton, Lawrenceville; Lyn McClung Scialo, Mabelton; grandchildren, Thomas Davis and Michael Davis, both of Lawrenceville; and Angelica Scialo, Mabelton.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, February 8, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. The family will greet friends one hour prior to the service. Interment will be in Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.
