Elizabeth Jones Groves, age 88, entered eternal paradise on February 9, 2011 after a brave and protracted battle with life's infirmities.
Visitation will be Saturday, February 12, beginning at 10:00 a.m. until service time. Services will be held on Saturday, February 12, 2011 at 11:00 a.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home in Warner Robins. Interment will be in Magnolia Park Cemetery. The Reverend Sydney Odom will officiate.
Throughout her life, Mrs. Groves constantly demonstrated unmitigated perseverance, dogged determination, tireless tenacity, an undaunted spirit and a work ethic exceeded by no one. Surrender was never part of her vocabulary. These exceptional values served her well during her lifetime of service to others. She shall be remembered by many whose lives she touched.
Born on December 18, 1922 in Perry, Georgia to William Talton and Alice Langston Jones, she attended schools in Perry and was further educated while honorably serving her country in World War II. After completion of her military service, she married her husband of 57 years, the late Henry A. Groves, Sr. She faithfully and tirelessly served the Houston County School System for 28 years being forced, although with protest, to retire because of declining health.
She is survived by her daughter and son-in-law Linda and Dr. Hugh Johnson of Dublin; a daughter-in-law Joyce Groves of Warner Robins; four grandchildren: Amy Johnson of Boca Raton, Florida; Dr. Rodney Johnson of Kansas City, Missouri; Brian Johnson of Kennesaw, Georgia and David Groves of Ann Arbor, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her husband Henry A. Groves, Sr.; her son, Henry A. Groves, Jr.; two sisters Mary Alice Nolan and Margaret Mixon; and three brothers William Jones, Harris Jones and Bobby Jones.
Mrs. Groves initially worshiped at the First Baptist Church of Warner Robins. She then became a charter member of the new Central Baptist Church where she remained until her death.
Although we grieve at her departure, we are comforted in knowing that she was sustained and soothed by an unfaltering trust in Christ our Lord realizing that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to his purpose. We pray and know that the same God who has taken Elizabeth Groves to live in Glory will tenderly guard the remainder of the family until we all find shelter in His heavenly fold.
