Elizabeth Craig, age 87, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 13, 2016.
Born on February 4, 1929, to the late Robert Lee and Willie Belle Layfield Peavy, Elizabeth was one of 9 daughters and 2 sons. Born and raised in Baldwin County, Ga, was a Georgia College alumni and a continuous life learner. She was an active member of Central Baptist Church and participated in Rehoboth Disaster Relief. Elizabeth was a talented seamstress and owned her own store before she went to work for Robins AFB. She retired from Robins AFB after 24 years of service. She was a Master Gardener, horticulturist and a member of the Hemerocallis Society (Daylilies). In 1998, she won Horticulture Sweepstakes GRAND CHAMPION GARDENER with multiple blue ribbons for flowers & plants at the Georgia National Fair. Elizabeth was an active member of Ikebana International, the art of Japanese floral design. She was a member of the Audubon Society and the Wilderness Society. Elizabeth enjoyed travel, nature, bird watching, and all of God's creations. She enjoyed people and never met a stranger. Elizabeth was a generous, kind person that will be missed by all.
Mrs. Craig was preceded in death by husbands, Carl Edwin Dukes and Palmer H. Craig, Jr.; sisters, Joyce Miller, Hilda Waller, Ruenelle Bustin, Margie Rookes, Dorothy Jones and brothers: Otis Peavy and Terry Peavy.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her son, Lenn Dukes (Sherrie), Culloden, Ga; daughter, Vickie Dukes Gilly, Warner Robins, Ga; two grandsons, Steven Lee Gilly, Simon Benjamin Gilly of Rochester, NY; son-in-law John Gilly of Rochester, NY and sisters, Barbara Larson, Juanita Hardee, and Shirley Etheridge, all of Milledgeville.
A memorial service to celebrate Elizabeth's life will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, October 22, 2016 in the chapel of McCullough funeral home. The family will receive friend's following the service from 12:00p.m. until 1:00 p.m.
