Elizabeth T. Watkins, 85, entered into rest on Thursday, May 10, 2012.
Elizabeth was born on November 4, 1926 in Decatur, Alabama. After graduating from Florence State Teachers College, she became a much-loved Home Economics Teacher, and later in life, she became a published poet. Elizabeth was a very devoted member of Trinity United Methodist Church where she sang in the church choir. A member of United Methodist Women, she was also a past State President and Treasurer for the Church Women United and served on the Board of Directors for Joyce Payne Ministries. Elizabeth was also a member of Beta Sigma Phi. Her loving husband, Hugh Arlington Watkins; parents, Herbert L. Thornton and Lorinda Farley Thornton; and her sister, Nancy Cooper, preceded her in death.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her adoring children, Alice Watkins, Atlanta and Reece Watkins, Warner Robins; brother, William Thornton, Rio Rancho, New Mexico; sisters, Frances Bryant, Raleigh, North Carolina and Lorinda Williams, Hollywood, Florida; sister-in-law, Christine Rothwell, Dayton, Ohio; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 19, 2012 at Trinity United Methodist Church. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given to Joyce Payne Ministries, 307 Wexford Circle, Bonaire, GA 31005.
