Ella Mae Gibson Self, avid animal lover, joined her beloved husband, Harris David Self, in Heaven, on the afternoon of Tuesday, July 27, 2021. She was born in Hawkinsville on January 8, 1939, the daughter of the late Gordon Eugene Scarborough and Dolly Mae Coody Scarborough.
Ella retired from Houston Healthcare with 20 dedicated years as a certified nurse’s aide and was an active member of Sandy Valley Baptist Church. She had a deeply strong faith in God which she passed down to her children and family. At church, Ella enjoyed fellowshipping with other members and attending the Senior Ladies’ Sunday School Class. She also loved her Summer’s Landing community where she would greet new residents with a friendly smile and make them feel at home. Reading, fishing and spending time with family were her favorite pastimes.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by her brother, Ellis Riley “Bo” Scarborough, Sr.
Ella’s memory will forever be treasured by her loving children, Joe Gibson (Katie), Kay Cunningham (Don) and Debbie Ezell (Stan); stepdaughter, Stephanie Henry; seven grandchildren; many great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Tynie Scarborough.
A funeral service will take place at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Sandy Valley Baptist Church, with visitation one hour prior to the service. Ella will be laid to rest next to Harris, in Magnolia Park Cemetery, following the service.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Ella to Sandy Valley Baptist Church Project Fund, 1124 S. Houston Lake Rd., Warner Robins, GA 31088.
For friends unable to attend at this time, the service will be streamed live via the McCullough Funeral Home Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mcculloughfuneralhome/live/.
