Ella Mae Cole Johnson was born May 10, 1939, in Forest City, Missouri, to the late Caledonia McNairy Gaston and Luke Cole. She departed from the life on Saturday, June 11, 2022, at 2:00 a.m.

She was a beautiful woman with a loving spirit. She never met a stranger and was a compassionate woman. She spent 30 years in healthcare taking care of others, as well as all of her children.

In addition to her parents, Ella was preceded in death by her husband, Roosevelt Johnson, Sr.; two brothers, H. W. Gaston and Robert Luckey; four sisters, Nepora Johnson, Lillie Tubbs, Hester Lewis, and an infant sister, Catherine.

She leaves behind two brothers, Pat Cole of Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Peter Cole of Oakland, California; four sisters, Bobbie Moore Biles and Gloria Vance of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Ruby Cole and Hazel Blackshire of Huntsville, Alabama; brother-in-law, Eddie McMillian of Des Moines, Iowa; sister-in-law, Beulah Wise; 12 children, Roosevelt Johnson, Jr. of Reynoldsburg, Ohio; Sylvia Redmon (John), Oleerxer Smith (Fred), and Tommy Sutton, all of Blytheville, Arkansas, Florene Lewis (Robert) of Pine Bluff, Arkansas, Ophelia Welch (Jerry), Jeffery Johnson, Anthony Johnson, all of Grand Rapids, Michigan, Roosevelt Johnson of Atlanta, Georgia, Machelle Cox (Louis), Bernice Gardner and Jacklin Black, all of Warner Robins, Georgia; 30 grandchildren, Mershodd, Latoya, and Terrance Redman, Samuel, Clarrissa, Tristan, Kenny, and A’Monké Johnson, Courtney Brown, Ebony and Kiara Bates, Frederick, Kendall, and Christopher Smith, Brian and Mechelle Gross, Jeremy Welch, Reshun Johnson, Brandon Lewis, Parrish, Shadia, and Keenon Johnson, Deveontae Perry, Brandon, Jaylen, Joshua, and Caleb Black, Cameron and Quinton Cox, and Britney Johnson; 36 great-grandchildren; six great-great grandchildren; as well as a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Visitation with Ella's family and friends will be on Friday, June 17, 2022, from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service celebrating her life will be held at 3:00 p.m. on Saturday, June 18, 2022, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Ella will be laid to rest on Monday, June 20, 2022, at 10:00 a.m. in Parkway Memorial Gardens.
