Elouise Cherry Gibson

October 2, 1928 — November 22, 2021

A Christian servant, Elouise was a faithful wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, and friend. She passed away peacefully on Monday, November 22, 2021, at Zebulon Park Health in Macon, Georgia. Elouise was 93 years old.

The daughter of the late Jesse and Ruby Trowell Cherry, Elouise was born on October 2, 1928, in Pansy, Alabama. A few months after graduating from high school, she married “Billie” Gibson in a small chapel on September 6, 1947, in Douglas, Georgia. Together, along with their small children, they lived in a number of places including Douglas, Atlanta, Savannah, and Dublin, before settling in Centerville. In 1970, a terrible tragedy struck the Gibson family and took the life of their beloved Billie. Elouise was left to quickly transform from being a housewife to becoming the sole provider for their family. She was a true tower of strength and fulfilled the roles of both parents to her children.

In addition to becoming a single mother, she dedicated her time and love to serving as the primary caregiver of her parents until they too entered into rest. A member of Green Acres Baptist Church for more than three decades, Elouise served the Lord, her God, with all of her heart, soul, strength, and mind. She also selflessly gave to others by working 15,600 hours over a 39-year span at the Houston Medical Center as a volunteer.

In addition to her parents, Elouise was preceded in death by her husband, Billie Q. Gibson; sons, Stanley “Stan” Gibson and Gary Gibson; and younger sister, Hazel Bearden.

Her memory will forever be treasured by her daughters, Pamela Lee (Jimmy) and Brenda Thompson, all of Byron; and daughter-in-law, Mary Gibson of Juliette; grandchildren, Wade Gibson, Billie Mulley (Billy); great-grandchildren, Courtni and Kip Gibson and Elouise “Elle” Mulley; as well as numerous nieces, extended family members and friends.

Visitation with Elouise’s family will be Saturday, November 27, 2021, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. The funeral service celebrating her life will immediately follow at 3:00 p.m., in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with her granddaughter, Billie Mulley officiating. A private graveside service will take place at Magnolia Park Cemetery where Elouise will laid to rest next to her husband. For friends and family unable to attend, the service will be streamed live via the McCullough Funeral Home Facebook page at www.facebook.com/mcculloughfuneralhome/live/. At the family’s request, masks are strongly encouraged to be wore during visitation.

In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Elouise Cherry Gibson to Green Acres Baptist Church Building Fund, 901 Elberta Road, Warner Robins, Georgia 31093.
