Emily Brown

August 25, 1919 — May 7, 2021

Emily Brown, 101, of Warner Robins, passed away peacefully in her home on Friday, May 7, 2021. Born in Austell, Georgia, on August 25, 1919, Emily was one of six children born to the late Alfred Bernard and Mamie Thurman Karwisch.

As a young adult, Emily worked at Western Electric, where she met her late husband, Lt. Col. Uleces Lamar Brown. They were married for 59 years and traveled the world, having lived in Japan, Germany, Hawaii, Massachusetts, Florida, Kansas, Idaho and Louisiana, before settling in Warner Robins. A master homemaker, Emily made every new house feel like a home for her children and husband.

Emily was a faithful member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Warner Robins for 60 years, where she was active in the Asbury Sunday School Class, the United Methodist Women, and her Circle. Emily enjoyed playing Bridge with friends, sewing clothing for her grandchildren, and traveling. As a member of the Homemaker’s Club sponsored by Flint Electric, she won a State award for a suit that she made. She was ever the proper hostess, welcoming her family and friends into her home and feeding them more than enough of her famous cooking.

Emily’s family and friends will cherish a lifetime of memories with her.

In addition to her parents, Emily was preceded in death by her husband, Lt. Col. Uleces Lamar Brown; brothers, Alfred B., Jr., James T., H. Jacques, and William M. Karwisch; and her sister and best friend, Mary Louise Karwisch.

Emily is survived by her three children, Lamar (Lynn) of Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, Jan (Lance) of Milner, Georgia, and Jean of Warner Robins. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Sarah Whitby, Emily King, Laura Roberts, Lance Toland and Ansley Benfield (Mark); as well as six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.

Her family would like to extend their gratitude to the following caregivers who allowed Emily to live out her final years in the comfort of her home: Shirley Thomas, Ethel Peavy, Ponesia Smith, Deborah Barfield, Ebone Simpson and Sonja Talbert.

Visitation for Mrs. Brown will be held on Wednesday, May 12, 2021, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m., at Trinity United Methodist Church. A funeral service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at the church, with Reverend Jeff Cook and Dr. Hugh L. Davis officiating. Emily will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery following the service.
