Emmett McEachern, 92, went to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Tuesday, May 14, 2019, at the Legacy Village of Tifton.
Born on May 24, 1926, in Unadilla, Georgia, Emmett was the son of the late James A. McEachern, Sr. and Mary L. Anderson McEachern. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and honorably earned the rank of staff sergeant. After his military service, Emmett went to work for Norfolk Southern Railroad as a mobile agent and retired after 44 years of service. He also owned a Gulf service station on Watson Boulevard in Warner Robins for many years.
A man of unwavering faith, Emmett was a devoted member of First Baptist Church in Centerville and enjoyed attending the Sutherlin Sunday school class. He was a dedicated member of the VFW Post #6605 for over 55 years, the American Legion Post #172 for over 60 years, and the Transportation Communication Union (TCU). Emmett was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, son, and friend. He will be dearly missed by all of those who loved and knew him.
In addition to his parents, Emmett was preceded in death by his loving wife, Ruth McEachern; siblings, Marvin McEachern; Mary Everett, James McEachern, and Eloise Bembry.
His memory will forever be treasured by his daughters, Lynda Brand (Ronnie) of Centerville, Lois Harper (Damon) of Tifton, Donna Laurens (Donnie) of Macon; seven grandchildren; and twelve great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, May 17, 2019 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, May 17, 2019 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Mr. McEachern will be laid to rest in Walnut Cemetery in Unadilla.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Mr. McEachern to First Baptist Church of Centerville at 108 Church Street, Centerville, Georgia 31028 or to Regency SouthernCare Hospice at 143 South Highway 319 #1, Moultrie, Georgia 31768.
The family of Mr. McEachern would like to express a very special thank you to the staff at Legacy Village of Tifton for the love and care that they gave to Emmett McEachern during his time there.
