Ernest "Gene" Burris, 73, entered into rest on Wednesday, April 22, 2009.
Mr. Burris was born on July 25, 1935 in Highway, Oklahoma. With pride and honor, he served his country in the United States Air Force for twenty years, retiring in 1974 with the rank of Master Sergeant. Subsequent to his military career, he was a retired Special Education Teacher with the Houston County Board of Education. Living in Warner Robins since 1969, Gene was a strong family man and believed in education. Gene and wife Margaret ensured all five boys graduated from the University of Georgia. Gene also did volunteer language training and community service work, and was an avid Robins Aero Club member. He called Bonaire United Methodist Church his church home. His son, Randy Burris, and parents, Marvin Burris and Orita Waldroop Burris, preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of fifty-four years, Margaret Burris; sons, Brad Burris, Bonaire, Greg Burris, Tampa, Florida, Jeff Burris, Bonaire, and Doug Burris, Yorktown, Virginia; brothers, Tommy Burris, Texas, and Curtis Burris, Virginia; twelve grandchildren and one great-grandchild.
Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Sunday April 26, 2009 at Bonaire First United Methodist Church, Reverend Jay Tucker officiating. Interment will follow in Bonaire Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Bonaire United Methodist Church Building Fund, 144 Elm Street, Bonaire GA 31005.
