Mrs. Evelyn Jean Butler Palmer, 85, died Tuesday, January 29 at her home. She was born September 27, 1916 near Clyde in Bryan County, Ga. to Horace Ray Butler and Mary Etta Richardson Butler. Mrs. Palmer was a resident of Savannah from 1936 to 1957. She married Walter Woodrow Palmer in 1940 and worked at Sears Roebuck and built “Liberty Ships” during WWII. She resided in Warner Robins, GA, for the last 45 years and worked at Robins Air Force Base. She was a member of Central Baptist Church. Mrs. Palmer was a Worthy Matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Palestine Chapter 249, Savannah, GA. She was a beloved wife, mother, and grandmother.
Mrs. Palmer is survived by her husband, Walter Woodrow Palmer, her only son and daughter-in-law, Cecil Ray Palmer and Virginia Smith Palmer, of Roswell, and two grandchildren: Mrs. Anne Dunstan Palmer Johnson and Miss Lisa Butler Palmer, both of Atlanta.
Visitation will be Wednesday, January 30 from 6:00 until 8:00 pm at McCullough Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, January 31 at the Chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Graveside services will be held 11:00 am Friday, February 1, at Hillcrest Abbey East Cemetery, Savannah, Georgia. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The Alzheimer’s Foundation or Hospice of Houston County, Inc.
