Foy S. Evans, Mayor of Warner Robins from 1976 through 1984, died on Friday, March 14, 2008.
His funeral will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, March 17, 2008 at Central Baptist Church in Warner Robins. He will be buried at Magnolia Park Cemetery in Warner Robins.
Evans, 88, a native of Americus, was founder of The Warner Robins Sun (The Daily Sun) in 1949. He was editor and publisher until he sold it in November 1972.
He was editor emeritus and columnist for The Houston Home Journal. His columns have appeared regularly in local newspapers since 1949.
He is a graduate of Americus High School, Georgia Southwestern College and the University Of Georgia School Of Law (1948) and has been a member of the Georgia State Bar since 1946. He served four years in the U. S. Navy during World War II. He was a Mason and Shriner.
Evans was a founding member of the Warner Robins Chamber of Commerce and a charter member of the Air Force Museum. He received the W. Herschel Lovett Award for Meritorious Public Service and the Georgia Education Association's School Bell Award.
Family members include his wife, Darlene Evans and grandson, Steff; son, Danny (Julie) Evans and grandchildren Foy and Audrey of Perry; stepdaughter, Lisa (Keith) Newton and children, Chance and Courtney; step-daughter, Gina (Harry) Lucas of Warner Robins; stepson, Steffan McGlamry, and children, Christie, Saybra, Steffan, Jr., and Trey of Centerville; and two sisters, Gloria Sutherland of Augusta, Georgia, and Lois White of Belvidere, North Carolina, and their children.
The family will receive friends and family at McCullough Funeral Home Sunday, March 16, 2008 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. Memorial contribution can be made to Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia, 31088 or The Westfield Schools, P.
