Franklin G. Herring

Franklin Grady Herring, 67, passed away on Wednesday, June 28, 2006. Services will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, June 30, 2006 in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with interment following in Andersonville National Cemetery at 12:00 p.m. Visitation will be Thursday, June 29, 2006 from 6:00 until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Donations may be given to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 1544 Warner Robins, Georgia 31099-1544.

Mr. Herring was born on April 17, 1939 in Latta, South Carolina. He was a Christian. Mr. Herring retired from the United State Air Force as a Tech Sargeant where he served our country as an Air Traffic Controller during the Vietnam War. Among his many honors he was decorated with the Vietnamese Armed Forces Honor Medal, Second Class at Binh Thuy AB, and Vietnam. Following his career in the Air Force, he was employed by the U.S. Postal Service where he began as a mail carrier and later worked in industrial maintenance for eighteen years. Mr. Herring graduated with an Associates Degree in Marketing Management from Crendal College. He was an avid fisherman and also enjoyed racing and football. His parents, James Curtis Herring and Annie Herring; sister, Frances Caulder and brother, D. J. Herring, preceded him in death.

Survivors include his wife of fourteen years, Onnie Jeannette Herring, Centerville; sons Frankie Herring II, Kathleen, Georgia, Tommy Herring, Chattanooga, Tennessee; daughters, Lori Ann Herring, Memphis, Tennessee, Jessica Lee Herring, Centerville, Georgia, and Cameron Michelle Adams, Roberta, Georgia; sister, Shirley Atkinson, Mullins, South Carolina; brothers Clyde Herring and Billy Herring, both of Latta, South Carolina; Grandchildren, Frankie Herring III, Heather Herring, Brock Herring and Ian Herring.
