Nick Martin, 88, passed away on Thursday, October 6, 2016.
Born on July 8, 1928 in Mena, Arkansas to William B. and Myrtle Martin, Sr. Nick married the love of his life, Jimmie E. Cook Martin on September 9, 1954, while serving in the United States Army at Fort George E. Meade, Maryland. In 1956 they returned to Mena, Arkansas where he resumed his previous employment with Southwestern Bell Telephone Company. Nick retired in 1982 after thirty-eight years of employment. Nick lived most of his life in Arkansas until he and his wife moved to Georgia in 2011. In his spare time, he enjoyed repairing old telephones, collecting stamps and building birdhouses. As written in Ephesians 6:10-18, through his Christian strength Nick embraced the "Armor of God" and this guided his life.
Along with his parents, his son, Lt. Colonel Joseph Zan Martin, USAF (Ret.), preceded him in death.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 62 years, Jimmie E. Martin of Warner Robins; daughter, Robins Martin Hixon and her husband, Col. Tommy D. Hixon, USAF (Ret.); daughter-in-law, Karen Roark Martin of Rogers, Arkansas; grandchildren, Capt. Thomas Daniel Hixon, USAF, Rachel Hixon, Joseph Martin, Alexandria Martin Ferguson (Joe); great-grandchildren, Julianna and Brooks Ferguson all of Fayetteville, Arkansas and brother, Richard D. Martin (Mary Ruth) of Mena, Arkansas.
