Born on December 2, 1936 in Monticello, Georgia, Mr. Thomason was a graduate of Lanier High School and the University of Georgia where he majored in Business and Real Estate. After serving in the Air Force with pride and honor, he was for a time a Bibb County Tax Assessor; he formed the Gene Thomason School of Real Estate and also taught Real Estate at then Macon Junior College. Among other local businesses, he owned Thomason Realty. He was a Mason, a former member of the VFW and the Moose Lodge and was of the Methodist faith. His parents, Linton K. Thomason, and Clara Pate Thomason, preceded him in death.
He will forever live in the hearts of his wife and soul mate of 30 years, Sally Vinson Thomason, Centerville; sons, Mark Thomason (Tracy), Byron, Cole Thomason (Andrea), Macon, Troy Thomason, Macon; daughters, Shana Thomason, Macon , and Dana Bittenbender (Dave), Macon;; grandchildren, Brittany, Brandon and Brooke Thomason, Cole, Ella and Kate Thomason, and David Kelly Bittenbender; brother, Linton Thomason, Jacksonville, Florida; sister, Olive Cheves, Melbourne, Florida; and a number of nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be Sunday, February 15, 2009 from 6:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, February 16, 2009 at Macon Memorial Park Mausoleum. Flowers will be accepted or memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children Hospital, 332 North Lauderdale, Memphis TN 38105 or to Ronal McDonald House Charities, 535 Alabama Avenue, Memphis TN 38105.
