George A. Stephens, 88, entered into rest on Monday, January 4, 2010.
Mr. Stephens was born on December 5, 1921, in Atlanta. He proudly served his country in the United States Navy for four years during World War II and saw action in the South Pacific. He owned and operated SWESCo (Stephens Welding Supply Co.) and Georgia Welding Co. Bonaire First Baptist Church was his church home. Sailing on Lake Lanier was one of his favorite pastimes. He enjoyed traveling very much and he and his wife Helen traveled throughout Canada and the United States for six years. He was predeceased by his parents, Clyde W. Stephens and Rose Clement Stephens, two brothers and one sister.
He will live in the hearts of his wife of fifty-four years, Helen Piper Stephens, Bonaire; children, Suzanne Millard (John), Georgia Stephens, both Cullman, Alabama, Michael Stephens, Orange Park, Florida, and Lisa Hill (Rick), Bonaire; grandchildren, Michelle Pennington, Chip Graham, Avery Hill, OS3 Christopher Stephens USN, Brittney Hill and Erin Hill; five great-grandchildren; sister, Caroline Wilson, Mississippi; and a number of nieces and nephews, until they meet in Heaven.
The family will gather to receive visitors and celebrate George's life at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday, January 7, 2010, at Bonaire First Baptist Church. A private memorial service will be held at a later date in Cullman. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations to the Alzheimer's Association, 277 Martin Luther King Boulevard, Suite 201, Macon GA 31216.
