George Paul Mathis, Sr., 90, entered into rest on Thursday, June 19, 2014.
George was born on April 6, 1924 in Camden, New Jersey and was of the Baptist faith. He proudly served his country in the United States Army during World War II and retired from Civil Service at Robins Air Force Base. George was a devoted member of the Masonic Lodge, loved the outdoors including hunting and fishing, but his true passion was for tending to his garden.
His sons, George Paul Mathis, Jr. and Mark Edward Mathis; parents, Edward and Cecillia Demyan Mathis; and brother, John Mathis, preceded him in death.
George's memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife, Doris Coaker Mathis of Richmond Hill, Georgia; granddaughter, Heather Heldreth (Daniel) of Pooler, Georgia and grandson, George Paul Mathis, III of Hawkinsville, Georgia; daughters-in-law, Nancy Mathis of Pooler, Georgia and Kay Graham of Newnan, Georgia; and several loving nieces and nephews. The family gratefully acknowledges the loving caregivers who assisted with Mr. Mathis in recent years.
A graveside funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 25, 2014 in Magnolia Park Cemetery with interment immediately following. Reverend Jeff Cleghorn will officiate.
