George R. Spooner, Sr. entered into rest on Saturday, February 12, 2022, after fighting a hard battle with a longtime illness. He was the age of 81.
Born on September 11, 1940, in Plant City, Florida, Mr. Spooner was the son of the late J.D. Spooner and Julia V. Spooner. At a young age, he moved with his family to Douglas, Georgia, where both of parents became Professors of South Georgia College. For five years, he worked as a Teacher in Crawford County and at Northside High School where Mr. Spooner helped many students learn and understand the importance of Industrial Arts. He then started his own business, Spooner Mobile Homes. Mr. Spooner owned and operated the business for 43 years before retiring. His family, friends, former colleagues and students will forever cherish the memory of Mr. Spooner.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Spooner was preceded in death by his two brothers, Reverend James S. Spooner and Dr. John D. Spooner.
Mr. Spooner is survived by his wife of 16 years, Sarah Spooner; son, George Roger Spooner, Jr. (Melissa) of Boise, Idaho; daughter, Diana Thomas of Panama City, Florida; step-daughter, Jerri Moore of Byron; step-sons, Kenneth Moore of Virginia and Michael Dyke (Shannon) of Sevierville, Tennessee; granddaughters, Madeline Spooner of Boise, Idaho; and Marie Franco of Salt Lake, Utah; grandson, Kyle Thomas of Panama City, Florida; and sister, Jane Spooner McElreath, a retired lawyer from Atlanta, Georgia.
Visitation will be Monday, February 21, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will immediately follow 2:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, George R. Spooner, Sr. will be laid to rest in Glen Haven Memorial Gardens.
