Georgia M. Ross, 90, of Centerville, Georgia died Monday, October 9, 2006. Visitation will be Wednesday from 7:00 until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, October 12, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Interment will be at Oakgrove Cemetery on Reese Street, Americus, GA at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday. Reverend Sydney Odum will be officiating, and Georgia’s grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Memorials may be made to Central Baptist Church Homebound Ministries, Central Baptist Church, 1120 Lake Joy RD Warner Robins, GA 31088, or to the Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge DR, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
Mrs. Ross was born on December 16, 1915 in Petros, Tennessee, the daughter of Ben and Rachel (Luke) McGhee. She later married James Clayton Smith, Sr. in Dayton, Tennessee. He preceded her in death, as well as, her second husband Allen Ross.
She is survived by her son, James Clayton Smith, Jr. (Cathy), Big Canoe, GA; two daughters, Catherine Bowers (Dave), Brenda Hodes (Dave), Centerville, GA; grandsons, Tim Goolsby, Michael Goolsby, Greg Goolsby, Eddie Bowers, and Todd Tyler; nine great-grandchildren; one sister, Daisy M. Young, Warner Robins; and many loving nieces and nephews.
Georgia was also preceded in death by sisters, Mary Phillips and Jessie Byrd; and brothers, Carl McGhee and Ben McGhee.
Georgia was a nurse in Americus at Sumter Regional Hospital, but it was her family that she loved so much and was so devoted to. Her second love was for flowers and plants.
