On the afternoon of Saturday, January 28, 2017, Gerald McCullers went to be with his Lord and Savior.
Gerald was born on October 15, 1935 in Laurens County, Georgia to the late Willie A. and Georgia Ann Beck McCullars. In 1952, at the age of 17, he enlisted in the United States Army where he served in the Korean War, Vietnam War, various locations in the United States and overseas in France and Germany. Gerald was awarded the Combat Infantryman Badge for his service in the Korean War and the Bronze Star for his service in the Vietnam War. He retired from the Army after 20 years of service with the rank of Sergeant First Class.
Following his military career, Gerald worked as an Electronics Mechanic at Robins Air Force Base from which he retired after more than 20 years of civil service. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Kathleen where he served as a Deacon and Treasurer. Of all his life achievements, Gerald's greatest joy came from serving his family and friends.
Along with his parents, he is preceded in death by his daughter, Deborah Woodworth, and siblings: Ruby McCullars, W.D. McCullars, Effie Thomas, Pearl Heath, Clyde McCullars and Nell Allen.
His memory will forever be treasured by his loving wife of 61 years, Shelby F. McCullers; children, Donald E. McCullers (Deborah) of Cadwell; Michael G. McCullers (Kay) of Jacksonville, Florida; Robert D. McCullers (MayBeth) of Macon; grandchildren, Zachary, Nicholas, Brandon (Margaret), Daniel (Whitney), Peyton, Taylor, Elizabeth, David, Abigail; great-granddaughter, Adelaide; siblings, Artrell McCullars (Betty) of Dublin; Durell McCullars of Cadwell; Charles McCullars (Linda) of Dublin; Hawley McCullars (Faye) of Dublin; sister-in-law, Mavis McCullars of Dublin; brother-in-law, Bobby Taylor (Dot) of Jacksonville, Florida; and sister-in-law, Gail Teston (Billy) of Dublin.
Visitation with Gerald's family will be Tuesday, January 31, 2017 from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. Funeral services will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 1, 2017 in the Chapel of McCullough. Following the service, Gerald will be laid to rest in Magnolia Park Cemetery.
