Gilbert William Forsythe

September 25, 1937 — January 12, 2023

Newport, RI native, Gilbert William Forsythe, passed away peacefully at home on the morning of Thursday, January 12, 2023, at the age of 85. He was born on September 25, 1937, the youngest of 10 children, to the late John Robert and Helen Jollie Forsythe. Sadly, Gilbert’s mother passed away when he was young, so he was raised by a sister. He graduated from Rogers High School in Newport where he was involved in ROTC. Gilbert was also privileged to serve his community in volunteering for the local fire department while still in high school and would take every opportunity to go to dances at the YMCA.

Following graduation, Gilbert continued volunteering at the fire department and working odd jobs here and there. He eventually moved across the country to California where he learned the trade of construction and pool service. Later in life, Gilbert became an ordained minister and served as a chaplain for Simi Valley Hospital for over 10 years. He filled the pulpit at his home church, Glory House Deliverance Tabernacle, as well.

In his retirement years, Gilbert relocated to Buckeye, AZ and became a staple member of the Buckeye Senior Center. He made a number of friends there as he practiced dances, took trips and went on lunch outings. Fishing and shooting pool were also a couple of Gilbert’s favorite pastimes.

As a young man and into adulthood, his genial and fun-loving personality made his life and the lives of those around him enjoyable.

Those left to cherish his memory are his loving daughters, Lori Miller (Kurt) of CA, Dianne Buchholz (George) of AZ, Kathy Forsythe of IL, Kelly Wray Silvia (Jimmy) of RI, and Cinnamon Medley (Chris) and Kali Urena Marte, both of GA; and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren.

Gilbert’s life will be celebrated with a private service for his family at a later date.
