Gloria Pike Harbuck, age 88, passed away October 25, 2023. She was a beloved wife, mother, sister, aunt and friend.

Gloria was born July 24, 1935, in Taylor County Georgia, daughter of Ruth Rustin Pike and L.R. “Dock” Pike. She and her sister, Martha Ruth, grew up in Mauk, Georgia and finished the seventh grade at Mauk Grammar School. Gloria finished her education at Butler High School in Butler, Georgia. While at BHS she was elected as the class President both her junior and senior years. She was also President of the Butler High School Beta Club during her senior year. She was Valedictorian of her class in 1953.

Gloria received a freshman scholarship to the University of Georgia. She earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Pharmacy in 1957. While at the University of Georgia she was a charter member of the Alpha Kappa chapter of the Lambda Kappa Sigma Sorority for women in Pharmacy and was a member of the Student Organization of the American Pharmaceutical Association. She served as treasurer of Alpha Kappa Chapter of Lambda Kappa Sigma for one year and later served as President of that sorority.

After graduating from college, Gloria married David T. Harbuck, Jr. and they moved to Macon, Georgia where Gloria worked for Hoggs Drug Stores and Chichester’s Pharmacy. They relocated to Houston County Georgia in 1959 where they raised two children. They resided here for the rest of their lives. Gloria made a career of doing regular relief work in drug stores in the Middle Georgia area. She was active in her children’s organizations during the time they were in school, and she made and decorated many cakes for their celebrations.

Gloria was an active member of Mauk Baptist Church. She and Dave spent many weekends in Mauk with their families. She was the Mauk Baptist Church Clerk for over 25 years. For about 20 years she printed church bulletins for Mauk Baptist Church. She was also an active member of the MCN Club which helped support the historic Mauk School House.  Gloria located many of their relatives and has printed volumes of information on genealogy for all the connecting families.

She is survived by husband, David T. Harbuck, Jr., daughter, Kathy Cox (Gary), son, Alan Harbuck, sister, Martha Ruth Edwards (D.R. “Sonny” Edwards), niece, Edie Smith (Lamar) and their children, Taylor Smith and Steven Smith (Kaitlyn) and their daughters, Evelyn and Elizabeth, and nephew, Don Edwards (Jennifer) and their children, Rustin and Laurel. There are also numerous relatives in the Harbuck family.

Visitation will be held at 1:00 to 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, October 28, 2023, at Mauk Baptist Church with the funeral service being at 2:00 p.m. Burial will follow in Mauk Cemetery.

The family will accept flowers or donations may be given in memory of Gloria Harbuck to Heartland Hospice, 200 Northside Crossing, Macon, Georgia 31210, or to the Mauk Cemetery Fund.
