Gudrun “Judy” Weis Pelletier, 83, entered into rest on Sunday, October 6, 2024.
Gudrun, Judy to many, was born in Darmstadt, Germany during the rise of World War 2, and as such had a tumultuous first 10 years of life: her mother passed away when she was three, and Gudrun and her older sister were shuttled between friends and acquaintances for several years to avoid allied bombing. After surviving the war, in her late teens, she enrolled in a nursing-assistant program which became her first profession.
Gudrun met Don (a U.S. Army serviceman stationed near Darmstadt) while chaperoning a friend on a date; they eventually married and had two sons before leaving for the U.S. She continued her healthcare career in the states, caring for handicapped youth and later, she became a successful and much-loved salesperson at Haverty’s Furniture, all the while being a great wife and mother.
Travel was always a great love for “Don & Judy”, who embraced overseas military postings as much as camping trips through Georgia with their boys, and later in retirement, exploring much of the U.S. in their motorhome. Home gardening and reading were her daily companions for many years, providing her with joy and purpose until the end of her life.
Judy was preceded in death by her parents, Fredrich and Dorthea Weis, and her husband, Donald D. Pelletier.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her sons, Robert and Brian.
