At the age of 69, GySgt. Francis P. “Frank” Cherney, USMC (Ret.) entered into rest on Wednesday, October 5, 2022, at Houston Medical Center.
The son of the late Rudolph and Anne Cherney, Frank was born in the Bronx, New York, on June 30, 1953. He served his country for 21 years and retired from the United States Marine Corps. Later, he was employed by Norfolk Southern. Frank, also lovingly referred to as “Pop,” helped keep his country’s railroad system running for many years until his retirement. Everyone loved his personality and enjoyed the way he made everyone feel, including strangers. Anyone who met and talked with Pop, knew he truly cared about them. Even on the worst of days, his joyful and loving spirit was the sunshine that brought others out of their darkness. Pop loved his family and would do anything for them. He undeniably met the criteria that qualifies a man as humble, honorable, honest, and true by everyone's standards. He was dearly loved and will be missed by all.
His memory will forever be treasured by his wife, Joyce D. Cherney of Warner Robins; eight children; 19 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Visitation with Frank’s family and friends will be held on Sunday, October 9, 2022, from 3:00 p.m. until 4:00 p.m. at McCullough Funeral Home. A funeral service will follow at 4:00 p.m. in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home. Afterward, Frank will be privately laid to rest with Full Military Honors.
