Ms. Hallie Mae "Queen" Cromartie-Phillips of 696 Richmond St. Macon, GA was called home to Glory on September 24, 2008, she was 56.
Ms. Cromartie-Phillips was born May 10, 1952 to Harrison and Josena (Littles) Cromartie in Sharon, PA. She was baptized and raised in Second Baptist Church in Farrell, PA. After graduating from Sharon High School, she received an Associates Degree from Penn State in Business and a Nursing Degree from Choffin Career Center in Youngstown, Ohio. She worked in a variety of jobs in both the business and the health industry. She was married to Jeremiah Phillips of Brookfield, Ohio.
Through out her life Ms. Cromartie-Phillips was very active in her church and community. One of her loves was acting. She was a member of the local Community Theatre and was featured in a number of plays. An avid community volunteer, Ms. Cromartie-Phillips served as a youth worker helping to redirect troubled youth. A true servant of people Ms. Cromartie-Phillips was mentor, prayer partner, advocate and friend to many.
In 1995 Ms. Cromartie relocated to Peachtree City, GA where she worked as a private duty nurse and became actively involved in the ministry of her church. Due to illness in 1999 Ms. Cromartie-Phillips moved to Macon, GA. Although disabled she looked for a new church home. She joined Pentecostal Temple and attended faithfully until her health prevented regular attendance. She served others through her prayer, wisdom and laughter. She had a great love for her church members. During her long illness Ms. Cromartie-Phillips known to most in Macon as "Queen" made many friends who she ministered to and others who ministered to her. Even during her illness "Queen" served as an advocate. Through the Disability Link she graduated from Partnership in Policy Making to serve as an advocate for people with disabilities. She made a number of trips to the Georgia Capitol as an advocate with Disability Connections of Macon.
Ms. Cromartie-Phillips was preceded in death by her parents and a brother Larry O'Neal Cromartie. She is survived by one son, Ronald Allen Cromartie of Farrell, PA; three granddaughters Keisha, Leaha and Veronica, one great-grandson Tristan Odom and one great-granddaughter Amiya Nicole West all of Farrell and Sharon PA. She is also survived by one brother, Clayton Smith of Washington D.C.; three sisters, Christine Hooker of Hubbard, OH; Lynette Evans of Hermitage, PA; and Dawn Oparah of Fayetteville, GA. She leaves behind a host of aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.
A memorial service is being held in Farrell, PA at the Greater Mount Zion Church of God and Christ at 1:00 PM on Wednesday October 1. On Saturday October 4 at 11:00 AM a Homecoming Celebration of Life Service will be held at Pentecostal Temple located at 928 Anthony Road in Macon, GA 31204.
