A beloved World War II veteran, Harry L. Roberts peacefully passed away on Friday, December 10, 2021. He was 95 years old.
A native of the Middle Georgia area, Mr. Roberts was born on November 5, 1926, in Macon. He was the cherished son of the late John Lenor and Lottie Eula Stephens Roberts. Mr. Roberts joined the United States Navy where he bravely served on the USS Mobile as well as the USS Springfield combat ships. He earned several medals during his time in the military including the Asiatic-Pacific Medal, American Area Medal, Philippine Liberation Medal, World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. The decorated veteran even walked through the city of Nagasaki only three months after the bombings. The devoted patriot was a vital part of setting up the phone services for the headquarters of the CIA as well as Cape Canaveral. He retired from Robins Air Force Base as a Civilian.
A man of the Baptist faith, Mr. Roberts attended Central Baptist Church. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed talking to others across the world on his Hamm Radio. This distinguished soldier will be remembered for his selflessness and service to God, his country, and his family.
In addition to his parents, Mr. Roberts was preceded in death by his daughter, Lenor Ericson; and siblings, Edna Rush and Mary Terrell.
His memory will forever be treasured by his adoring wife of 28 years, Judith Lee Whetnall Weatherford; children, Sharon Yarborough (Johnny) of Marietta; Melody Roberts of Macon; son-in-law, David Ericson; step-children, Jay Weatherford and Richard Weatherford of Warner Robins; Julie Allen and Sherri Gresham of Warner Robins; grandchildren, Lauren Yarborough, Cale Yarborough, Kelly Ericson, Joel Ericson, and Emily Ericson; step-grandchildren, Tim Spires, Jared, Brandt, Krissie, Cavin, Hunter, and Sierra Weatherford; three great-grandchildren, Mason Ericson, Lena and Beau Rust; sister, Doreen Harrison of Byron; and numerous extended family members and friends.
A funeral service celebrating his life was held on Sunday, December 19, 2021, at McCullough Funeral Home Mr. Roberts was laid to rest at Glen Haven Memorial Gardens. Dr. Bob Dilks officiated.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Harry L. Roberts to the Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, Georgia 31088.
