Hazel "Betty" Lukosky

October 20, 1936 — June 8, 2022

Betty Lukosky, born on October 20, 1936 in Samson, AL to the late Dallas Houston and Grace Tharpe Day, passed away on Wednesday, June 8, 2022, at the age of 85. In addition to her parents, she was reunited in heaven with her beloved husband, MSG James C. Lukosky, U.S. Army (Ret.), her son, Steven Lukosky; and her siblings, James Day, Bennie Ray Day (Janet), John Dallas Day (Jill) and Jean Day.

As the eldest of 11 children and a natural caregiver, Betty helped to raise her younger siblings who consisted of 5 boys and 5 girls, including a set of triplets. She was a loving wife to her husband James for over 44 years. She always saw to it that everyone in her family had everything they needed no matter what; they were her world.

Betty was sweet, kind, giving and loved to laugh, cut up and just plain talk. She never met a stranger and was a people person. In her free time, Betty was an excellent cook and enjoyed gardening, reading and spending time with her grandchildren. She retired from management and sales in World Book Encyclopedia and was of the Baptist faith.

Those left to cherish her memory are her loving children, Jill McGuire (Richard) of Warner Robins, Susan Calhoun (Charles “Shane”) of Bonaire, and John Lukosky (Kymberly) of Redmond, WA; grandchildren, Laura Johnson (Trey), Sara Murph (Nash), Kaitlyn Brooke Postin (Jake), Sean McGuire, Emma Lukosky, Dinara Lukosky and Noah Lukosky; seven great-grandchildren; and siblings, Royce V. Day (Debbie), Doris Tharp (Jerry, deceased), Katherine Steadman (Gene), Jane Rzucek (Jan), Joan Jordan (Thomas) and Michael Day.

The family would like to extend a special ‘thank you’ to Betty’s sweet friend and caregiver, Julia Solomon and the other staff at The Oaks Nursing Home in Marshallville, GA. They went beyond the call of duty in taking care of her.
