Helen Wetzel, 79, went to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, June 5, 2017.
Helen was born on May 11, 1939 in Columbia, South Carolina to the late John and Francis Carter. She was a loving and devoted homemaker whose family was always her highest priority. Helen was a longtime member of Central Assembly of God in Columbus, Georgia. She loved Jimmy Swaggert, and once she was unable to attend her beloved church she would watch Jimmy's worship services and adoringly listen to his music. Helen also enjoyed watching Hallmark movies and loved all types of flowers.
Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John Wetzel; sons, David Lee Carter and Jerry Lamar Smith; and siblings, J.D. Carter, Odell Carter, Margaret Rinehart, Ray Carter, Clarence Carter, Pat Hunter, Shirley Mayberry, and Jack Carter.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Gene Autry Smith, Jr. (Rhonda), Joann Richardson (Thomas); several grandchildren; siblings, Floyd Carter, Lucille Andress, Gracie Wright; as well as several nieces and nephews.
Visitation with Helen's family will be Friday, June 9, 2017 from 1:00 p.m. until 2:00 p.m. at Shirley Hills Baptist Church. A memorial service will immediately follow at 2:00 p.m. at Shirley Hills Baptist Church. Interment will be private.
In lieu of flowers, the family respectfully suggests memorial donations be given in memory of Helen Annie Smith-Wetzel to Hospice Care Options, 136 Hospital Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31088 or Heart of Georgia Hospice, 103 Westridge Drive, Warner Robins, GA 31088.
