Helen Jean Bowie, a loving mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, and friend, passed away on February 2, 2025, at the age of 73. Born on August 23, 1951, in Laurel, Mississippi, Helen was raised in Ellisville, Mississippi, where she graduated from Roosevelt High School.
After high school, Helen dedicated many years of her life working at Ellisville State School, where she supported and assisted individuals with mental disabilities. Her kindness and patience made a lasting impact on the lives of those she cared for.
Helen moved to Crawfordsville, Indiana, to live with her son, Jerry, and eventually relocated to Warner Robins, Georgia, where she spent her later years with her other son, Gregory. Throughout her life, she found joy in going to church, volunteering, and spending quality time with her beloved grandchildren, who she loved dearly and protected fiercely.
Helen was known for her strong personality and straightforward nature. She wasn’t afraid to speak her mind, and if she didn’t connect with someone, she made sure they knew. But beyond her boldness, Helen was also known for her sweetness and generosity. She valued her independence and took great pride in standing on her own two feet.
Helen loved to travel and explore new places, but above all, she cherished her family and the time spent with them. She showed her love through her generous spirit and was deeply cherished for it.
She was preceded in death by her father, Henry Collins and son Alphonso Bowie.
Her memory will forever be treasured by her children, Gregory Bowie (Deborah) of Warner Robins, Georgia and Jerry Bowie, Jr. of Lafayette, Indiana; grandchildren, Daryan Bowie, Samuel Bowie, Alexavier Cummings, Allun Bowie, and Aren Bowie; great-grandchild, Karson Bowie; mother, Katherine Virginia Collins of Ellisville, Mississippi; siblings, Anthony Collins (Elsa), Desi King, and Frankie Collins (Vernagate); and numerous nieces and nephews.
At the family's request, all services will be private.
