Helen C. Wooldridge, 78, passed away on Tuesday, January 3, 2006. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 A.M on Friday, January 6, 2006, in the chapel of McCullough Funeral Home with Father Paul Gerlock officiating. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to the Methodist Home for Children and Youth, 304 Pierce Avenue, Macon, Georgia 31204.
Mrs. Wooldridge was born on January 24, 1927 in Miami, Florida. She was vice-president of personnel for the First Federal Savings and Loan of Miami and personnel manager of Georgia Federal of Macon. She was a member of All Saints Episcopal Church.
Mrs. Wooldridge was a leader in business, having served as one of the first women executives in the banking industry. She wrote articles and gave speeches and seminars on personnel development. Mrs. Wooldridge was a leader in her community, always working for the betterment of others. In Miami she was project coordinator for The Living Witness Program, a very successful mentoring program between industry, the Chamber of Commerce, and the school system. While working at Home Federal in Macon, Mrs. Wooldridge was instrumental in starting the “Home Talking News” project which supplied cassette recording to shut-ins. She served on the Houston Arts Alliance where she coordinated the Talking Book program, making tapes available to the blind and handicapped. Mrs. Wooldridge was a strong proponent of education and served on several college boards promoting work experience credits to encourage students. In her later years, she spent many hours working with the Red Cross at Robins Air Force Base and at her church. A very generous woman, Mrs. Wooldridge supported many charities. Especially dear to her was the Methodist Home for Children and Youth in Macon.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Darrell C. Wooldridge.
